About Me

My photo
The Dastak Collective was created when a group of like-minded individuals decided to come together and form a 'Collective' to find answers to relevant issues that surround us. The initiative is to delve into deeper issues that threaten the balance of society, making lives vulnerable, forcing these lives to be pushed to live in the margins. Dastak will work towards empowering and enabling- through education, both formal and non-formal, through life-skills and vocational trainings and by generating sustainable livelihood options so that an association can be made with the mainstream- leading towards an equally informed, dignified and independent life. The members of the group have been brought together by ideas, also actively and strongly taking action against injustices and working towards challenging them. We think that it is not only a need, but also our responsibility to stand up for the rights of marginalised and exploited people and environment. We are looking forward to collaborate and work in diverse areas – from urban-rural environmental concerns to human trafficking to informal education to traditional art and anything that is struggling to find a voice around us.

Photos On Walls

What is it all about?

It is an open and free street exhibition that we organise with a set of volunteers. We are open to photographers, Graphic artists, visual artists and basically anyone interested in visuals of any kind. We like to work with ideas rather than just images and are open to all kind of themes and work. We are also open to changing the pattern and improvising - looking at the artist's work. So don't hesitate to write to us for any idea that is stuck in you head.

How do we go about it?
Usually we send out a fb invitation.Find us here .We also post it on other pages (where people allow us or do not mind sharing space) like Delhi Photographers, Secret Delhi etc. If you do not have a fb account- send us you email id or keep checking here. Then we decide a day and meet at some place where we can get the cheap prints(usually Nehru Place), pay for the prints, get double side tape, cut and stick them behind the prints and decide the route for the exhibition day.

The tiny idea here?
Simply, that we also want to see art outside halls and exhibition spaces- on the streets. Many of us started by photographing the street- there is always something happening there. So lets get back to it- where a lot of people who might not see photographs or art work put up like that-get a chance to see it and talk about it. And- lets face it, isn't it exciting to explore new places and use them in their natural environment. All said- it is just a way to reach out to the local audience, the passers by and surprise them(pleasantly of course).
We also usually encourage viewers to take the prints off the walls and take them home after the work has been up on the wall for sometime. This has been a usual activity in the past.

You can also volunteer with us and help us put the photos around town or just come to watch the art work !
